Church of England SCHOOLS in the Deanery of Mansfield

School childrenThe Church of England: a major force in education for hundreds of years.

In Mansfield, the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham is pleased to provide Christian input to two secondary schools offering free education. Currently, Area Dean Revd. George Butler is a regular visitor to the young people at QE School. Soon a chaplain* will be appointed to minister to the pupils of both establishments.

For well over 400 years the QUEEN ELIZABETH school has served the educational needs of the young people of Mansfield. Recently renamed THE QUEEN ELIZABETH'S (1561) ENDOWED SCHOOL, the Diocese plays an important role in its ethos. Proud of its heritage but determined to meet the needs of 21st century young people, the school strives towards ever higher standards. "We are proud to serve our community and through partnership we are making The Queen Elizabeth's School an exciting place to learn together."

THE SAMWORTH CHURCH ACADEMY opens in the existing buildings of Sherwood Hall School in September 2008 before moving to brand new purpose-built accommodation in 2010. This exciting project is jointly financed by local retired businessman David Samworth and by the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.
Open to young people of any faith or none, the declared aim is " . . . to create a school that is built on respect and avoids any kind of discrimination (and with) Christian values and ethos".
